Unsure on Identity

December 6, 2017 About Chirst 0

Identity. Purpose. Worth.
We ask our selves why are we here on this earth, why am I alive, God what is my purpose?! We all at some point have sat there with only one word able to come out….why?

“Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.” Matthew 10:39
This verse reminded me that when I am lost running the opposite way from God, it isn’t going to get me anywhere than away from the place I will find my lost self at. Awhile ago and I was talking with a friend and asked, “Like I don’t understand from people’s point of view what I would be, I literally am stuck I don’t get who I am.” The problem with this is I was literally asking what my identity was from people’s perspective, not the one who literally created every piece and part of me. It’s like going to an ice cream shop and asking the employees how to build a car, they can guess but only the person who builds you knows all of you. So often we will chase after worldly things to find our identity and our worth.  Drugs cause everyone else says to. Tons and tons of girlfriends and boyfriends so I know I’m loved. Talking the language the crowd talks so I know I relate to people. These won’t satisfy you, let me tell you now. These things at the moment will feel like your on top of the world but you don’t realize the world is slowly falling down under you. After talking with my friend I realized what am I doing, why do I care what people think, when I know the world will hate me, but my God will love me if I go to him. But if I turn from God to get the world to love me, it will never last. Unlike God’s love which lasts for eternity. Our identity isn’t found in worldly things or even people, it’s found in God. Our identity is also not found in things we do, if someone asks who you are, saying you’re a football player doesn’t show who you are- it’s what you’re doing. We can’t let the label or the rank we are placed at define our identity. If we give God all we are, HE will provide the answer to who we are through him.

Identity is a big thing that trips people up, even when we are chilling out on the couch and then BAM thoughts bombarding you with the why? Why am I here? Who am I? Better yet, Am I worth being here, if I don’t have a “purpose”?

My response to your bombarding thoughts are:

Identity- As a child of God, it can only and truly be found in God and not what people’s opinions shape you to be.

Purpose– Being apart of God’s family, you have a purpose here! The purpose is to share God’s word and love one another as HE has loved you. To live out his love that he unconditionally gives to you, therefore planting a seed that is hoping to grow. I know it stresses me out sometimes being like well, what way is God specifically calling me? Is it through music, sports, words or design? Well, you can be 8 or you can be 22 and still wonder what is God’s calling for me? You might not know at the moment but know you are here for a purpose and it’s an extremely important one. Don’t waste your time doing nothing and waiting for your gift, when you could still be out loving people and being a light, everyone is called to do so! “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Jerimiah 29:11

Worth– I can’t stress enough, saying you are worth it! You are a masterpiece of God. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 4:10. We are created by the same God who created the heavens and the earth, the blue skies and the twinkling stars. You are INCREDIBLY loved.  ” For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.” Psalm 139:13-16

A lot of us tend to forget this daily because we get distracted by lies the enemy speaks. Don’t think you’re not worth it, in God’s eyes you are priceless ( A price could never be placed on such a masterpiece God created). God says you are my child and you are secure in my hands. You are free from condemnation, the chains that hold you have now vanished! You are a citizen of heaven as it says in Philippines 3:20, “ But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ,”
